About the project
RSAI developed a technology-enabled Remote Road Safety Inspection approach for the Trans-African Highway 7 corridor linking eleven West African coastal states.
The study used satellite and aerial imagery, three-dimensional visualisation and GIS evidence to assess risks where conventional multi-country inspections were constrained by distance, cost and access.
Scope of work
- Establish reproducible georeferenced inspection points.
- Apply a harmonised 13-parameter inspection checklist.
- Analyse pavement, drainage, crossings, roadside hazards and other safety features.
- Develop segment-level risk assessments and regional policy recommendations.

Documented outputs and progress
- Approximately 4,083 km reported as assessed in the documented analysis.
- More than 628 geotagged inspection points and a repeatable assessment framework.
- Technical paper and findings presented at IRF Global R2T in December 2025.
The inspected distance is the reported analysis coverage, distinct from the approximate total corridor length. Research outputs do not imply remedial works have been completed.
